Safety Skill Support Community

There is a place for you on this road.

Motorcycling can feel difficult to enter when you don't know where to start—or when cost, training, gear, confidence, or simply having someone to ask stands in the way.

Throttle Forward Foundation exists to help remove those barriers and give prospective riders a safer way to begin.

Every rider begins somewhere.

Where my road began

I didn't start out as a rider, either.

In 2003, after years of daydreaming about motorcycles, my husband finally convinced me to buy one—a new Sportster 883.

There was just one problem.

I couldn't ride it.

My coworker Pat rode my brand-new motorcycle home from the dealership for me and took the time to show me how the controls worked. He didn't have to do that. He simply helped a new rider find her footing.

I enrolled in a Basic RiderCourse, learned the fundamentals, and earned my motorcycle endorsement before taking the bike out on the road myself.

The training gave me a safe place to start. What I didn't have yet was a connection to the larger motorcycle community—experienced riders to ask questions, learn from, and ride beside.

Eventually, I found that community. And it changed my life.

Throttle Forward exists in part to make that path easier to find.

You don't have to arrive looking like a rider. You only need to be curious enough to take the first step.

The welcome behind the work

Meet Buddy.

Buddy was a French Bulldog with a very simple approach to life:

If you were there, you were probably his friend.

He had a huge personality tucked behind those ears and, more often than not, a sand-covered face. He didn't need an introduction or a reason to welcome someone. He simply assumed there was room for one more.

Over the years, we've been fortunate to meet a few people like that, too—the rare kind who welcomed us without hesitation and left an impression that lasted long after the moment had passed.

Buddy reminded us how powerful something that simple can be.

When we lost him unexpectedly, eventually we realized the best way to carry him forward wasn't simply to remember him. It was to practice what came naturally to him.

Make room. Welcome the newcomer. Help somebody find their place.

That spirit became The Buddy Program and the philosophy behind Throttle Forward.

Welcome to Our Pack. There's always room for one more.

Our first initiative

The Buddy Rider Program

Helping prospective riders take that first step through professional training, essential protective gear, and connection to the motorcycle community.

01

Train

Help prospective riders access professional beginner rider training and start with a proper foundation.

02

Protect

Help reduce the cost barrier of essential protective gear.

03

Connect

Help new riders connect with experienced riders, organizations, and resources that can answer questions and make the motorcycle community easier to navigate.

04

Educate

Share practical rider-safety information and point riders toward qualified training and trusted resources.

We don't need to reinvent the motorcycle community. We want to make it easier for new riders to find the best of what's already here.
